Many people know James Hunter from his 17 years at Deloitte & Touche, during his ascension to Partner, or from the time he spent at the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business as an MBA student.
Look back further, students, teammates and coaches know Jim Hunter from the University of Victoria as a friend and as the Captain of the varsity basketball team.
In his hometown on Vancouver Island, the residents and Jim’s own parents there likely remember Jim as a boy – head strong, tenacious and smart.
If we look at those closest to him, he is known as Jimmy or simply Dad.
CEO, Partner, Friend, Mentor, James, Jim, Jimmy or Dad – however you have known Jim Hunter during his exemplary life, it is probably not with the devastating neurodegenerative disease that makes the simplest tasks, such as walking, talking, swallowing and breathing, incredibly difficult.
This is Jim with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS. This is now how Jim knows the world.
Despite all of these significant changes in his life, some things have remained the same – Like Jim’s headstrong and tenacious drive toward making life better for those around him and solving problems. This drive is the main impetus behind the James Hunter Family ALS Initiative, a fundraising and charitable organization dedicated to the research of ALS from diagnosis to cure.
